Weight lossAccording to the latest Heart Foundations statistics, 42% of men and 28% of women over the age of 18 are overweight. Compared to 1995, the proportion of Australians that are obese in 2016 has increased by 47%.

Australian women spend more than $400 million per year trying to lose weight. According to a survey of 445 Australian women aged 18-32 years, around two-thirds had used at least one weight loss method in the 12 months prior to the survey. And of these women, they had outlaid around $440 on average over the 12 months in their quest to be slim.

As we are all different, the causes of weight will be also different. Weight loss is not as simple as calories in and calories out, there are many metabolic drivers for weight gain. They can include:

  1. A sluggish thyroid
  2. Adrenal fatigue
  3. Food intolerances
  4. Emotional blockages
  5. Stress
  6. Nutrient deficiencies e.g. Vitamin D and iodine
  7. Hormonal imbalances e.g. estrogen dominance, insulin resistance
  8. Inappropriate portion sizes
  9. Liver congestion
  10. Leaky gut syndrome
  11. Environmental chemicals
  12. Poor sleep patterns
