What are your top 3 tricks to getting more fruit and vegetables into
your children’s diet?

1. Your blender is your best friend!  – Fruits and veggies blend together so well that kids won’t even notice they’re eating something healthy! Try fresh raw fruits and veggies in your blender and juicer to create a variety of smoothies and juices. You can even add a couple a spoonfuls of raw super foods, like Spirulina powder and Goji berries. My daughter Issy had her first green smoothie when she was 7 months old and she loved it – 1 banana, 1/2 apple, 1 cup spinach, 1-2 cups water.

Some of her other favourites are:

Baby Mango

  • 2 ripe mangoes, peeled
  • 1 ripe peach
  • 1 Cup of Spinach or a tea spoon of Spirulina
  • 2-3 cups of water

Basic Balance

  • 1 ripe mango, peeled
  • 1 cup kale
  • 1 cup water

Baby Love

  • 2 bananas
  • 1 pear
  • 1 cup Kale
  • 1/2 cup water

2. Grate away!  – Grated carrots or zucchini can be added to savoury buckwheat pancakes and sandwich wraps. Grated coconut and apple (and a sprinkle of nuts or seeds) can be added to desserts, snacks or breakfasts for a hidden, nutritious boost.

3. Get the kids cooking!  - Get the kids involved from the start by letting them pick and choose their fruit and veg at the store. If kids become involved in choosing and preparing their meals, they’ll be more interested in eating what they’ve created! If they’re old enough, let them cut up a variety of veggies and mix them into whatever you’re making. Letting your kids have fun creating their own meals becomes a positive playful experience, increasing their likeness of different foods.

SE-pr7Sophia Eats  – Out Now!

When I was pregnant I began thinking about how I could ensure my child also shared this passion. I simply couldn’t imagine raising a child who wouldn’t enjoy hours of cooking and meal times with me! If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook you will know that Sophia is, indeed, a prolific eater which brings me so much joy.

I created Sophia Eats e-book is a result of everything I have learnt about toddler health, both professionally and personally over the last few years. I studied paediatric nutrition, implemented all my food knowledge and spent many hours in the kitchen. Find out more about my ebook and purchase your copy here >>
