What Are Sea Vegetables?

These interesting sea creatures are packed full of nutrients and minerals like iron, iodine, calcium, Vitamin A,B,C, manganese and magnesium. Sea Vegetables are great for your teeth, bones, hair, skin and nails and help to keep your thyroid in good health. Research has investigated the cholesterol lowering properties as well as positive effects on cancer prevention.

You may be thinking that they are going to taste like seaweed fresh from the sea but they really don’t have a strong taste especially once you add them to your food.

Different types of sea vegetables.

Kombu: Looks like a long stick of seaweed and is highly alkaline. When added to water it becomes soft so add it to soups, brown rice and quinoa.

Nori: Sheets of nori is what is wrapped around nori rolls. You can use these sheets by adding your own ingredients to them and rolling up or otherwise tear the nori into strips and add to salads, rice dishes, vegies and soups.

Arame: This a species of kelp and can also be added as a garnish to dishes or eaten on its on own with some tamari and ginger.

Wakame: Soak wakame in water before adding to salads or add it in the last couple of minutes to your cooking. Wakame has probably the strongest taste out of all the varieties but super delicious!

RioLife Acai Challenge – Day 14

Day 14

Australian customs loved my Acai and whisked me through with a “welcome home!’ and a big smile. I head home to unpack and get ready for work tomorrow. What a brilliant holiday and I just adore travelling to other countries!

So, after 14 days of having Acai every day how do I feel? The answer is simple – fantastic! Despite long clinic days, 2 international flights, a busy 4 days in Thailand I am bouncing with energy, my eyes are shiny and my skin is so soft. I love this stuff and will definitely continue taking it daily. I notice that some days I seem to want more than others so I will just listen to my body and go with that. For my last dose I have a big bowl of fruit with Açaí mixed into sheep’s milk yoghurt and some kamut flakes on top. Delicious!

RioLife Acai Challenge – Day 13

Day 13

It’s time to go back to Australia so I pack my bags, say goodbye to everyone and take one last bike ride around to ensure my memories are locked in tightly. I visit my little coconut vendor and say goodbye and I almost cry, she is so sweet. I just adore Thailand and love the way spirituality is such a natural part of life here. I feel very much at home and will be back again in six months. Acai makes its way into my breaky juice and also my coconut today. Seems my body wants a double serve for the flight home. I get to the airport and onto the plane without any issues apart from me not wanting to leave!

RioLife Acai Challenge – Day 12

Day 12

Wedding day has arrived and I dose up on Acai as it will be a very big day! I actually put the Acai in a coconut and drink it that way. It’s great to scrape out the coconut meat and either eat it or add it to your smoothie. I am feeling so good and believe that the consistency of taking Acai is the reason. Nearly two weeks and it feels really easy to include in my diet and I am loving the outcome. My eyes are looking really clear and I only ever get that when I am detoxing. I notice this in clients and I call it “Detox Eyes” where the whites are so white it changes the colour of your eyes, they become luminous and shiny.

RioLife Acia Challenge – Day 11

Day 11

I have discovered the most beautiful company that hand makes every spa and body product you can imagine. Chemical free, natural, using locally derived ingredients and never tested on animals,Lemongrass House is like a dream come true for me! I feel like a kid in a lolly shop and have to keep reminding myself of my luggage limits. I have noticed that the resort I am staying, Twin Palms, burns lemongrass essential oil everywhere so I stock up on that and also some lemongrass room spray and massage oil. I adore riding motorbikes when in Thailand and always take the opportunity to jump on and explore. Today it started to pour with rain so I pulled over and found a wonderful local restaurant in Saithong. Situated on the edge of the water it overlooks the bay and is really nothing fancy. A few plastic tables and chairs, an open kitchen and lots of people eating. I ordered som dam – a traditional salad of green papaya. I asked for mild chilli and thoroughly enjoyed the cold beer I needed to cool down! This is the fun of travelling, when you discover a hidden delight that leaves you withbeautiful memories.

RioLife Acai Challenge – Day 10

Day 10

Today I have woken up feeling clear eyed and bright. My sleep quality seems to have improved as I feel really energetic despite only having 5-6 hours sleep. When I look back over the last 10 days this has been a consistent pattern and I am starting to think that the Acai is making a big difference. I head off to check out the Banyan Tree Resort which has been crowned the 2nd best resort in Asia by Conde Nast Magazine. It is indeed stunning and I make a great contact with the manager. I show him the Açaí powder and he is quite fascinated by it. Today I had my Açaí with the Detox fruit combination of papaya, pineapple, dragon fruit and mangosteens with fresh lime juice. I want to soak this up while I can as it will be quite a few months till these fruits hit our Australian shores!

RioLife Acai Challenge – Day 9

Day 9

I have found my favourite coconut vendor – she is about 10 years old and adorable. Anyone who reads my blogs or newsletters will know how much I love coconut water. It is full of electrolytes and hydrates your body more efficiently than any other fluid. Think of your cells as being like juicy, plump grapes as opposed to dried up raisons and you get the picture! It is also perfect for an upset tummy or morning sickness. I have mixed my Acai with coconut water and then I scrape out the pulp and eat it too. Delicious!

RioLife Acai Challenge – Day 8

Day 8

It is so incredibly balmy in Phuket and I just love Thailand. The weather, food, beaches, and health retreats – it has everything that I love! I haven’t had much sleep, probably about 3 hours and didn’t sleep on the plane either. It must be the excitement of having a holiday and seeing my beautiful family again. My Acai made it through customs despite some strange questions and raised eyebrows. I convinced them that it really was a berry and I had to use all my NLP rapport building skills to stop them confiscating it!

For breakfast I had a big plate of fruit with yoghurt and Acai. I adore the tropical fruits of Thailand and have a Detox breaky of papaya (also great as a face mask with egg whites), pineapple, dragon fruit and mangosteens with fresh lime juice. I could literally feel the vitamins and antioxidants hit my bloodstream! I am really starting to feel the benefits of my Acai Challenge as usually I wouldn’t be so energetic on such little sleep.

RioLife Acai Challenge – Day 7

Day 7

Am off to Thailand today for work as well as my sister’s wedding. I am taking my Acai powder and aim to mix it with fresh coconut juice daily. I am going to load up on immune food and supplements today as I will be on a plane for 9 hours and don’t want to get sick! Echinacea, andrographis, vitamin C and zinc and some garlic, ginger and chilli in my green vegetable stir fry. I took my Acai in a smoothie today as it is so quick and easy when I am on the run.

RioLife Acai Challenge–Day 6

Day 6

I had about 4 hours sleep as a TV show I am working on asked for some last minute menu plans – have been dreaming about food all night as a result! I have a radio gig today and need to present as well so my energy needs to be really high. I had my Acai powder in some fresh juice this morning and it tasted fine. I must admit that even though I am running on minimal sleep I look ok and also feel really calm and relaxed. Not sure if the Acai is working or my meditation at this point but it does seem a little unusual. Let’s wait and see……..

This is a photo of my gorgeous make-up guru David, who also jumped on board with the Acai challenge!
